Connecting Your Phone via USB
A detailed guide to connecting your Android phone to ShadowPhone Desktop via USB, including enabling USB debugging and troubleshooting common issues.
Enable Developer Options
On your Android phone, go to Settings > About Phone and tap 'Build Number' seven times. You will see a toast message saying 'You are now a developer'. On GrapheneOS, the path is the same.
Enable USB Debugging
Go to Settings > System > Developer Options and toggle on 'USB Debugging'. You may also want to enable 'Stay awake' to prevent the screen from sleeping while connected.
Connect the Cable
Use a high-quality USB data cable. Plug one end into your phone and the other into your computer. When you see a prompt on your phone asking to 'Allow USB debugging', tap Allow and check 'Always allow from this computer'.
Verify in ShadowPhone
Open ShadowPhone Desktop and navigate to the Phones tab. Your device should appear within 5-10 seconds. If it shows a green status indicator, you are ready to go. If it shows yellow or red, check the troubleshooting guide.
Multiple Phones
You can connect multiple phones simultaneously using a powered USB hub. We recommend hubs with individual port switches so you can reset connections without unplugging. Each phone appears as a separate device in the Phones tab.
GrapheneOS Profiles
If you are using GrapheneOS, you can create multiple user profiles on a single phone. Each profile gets its own isolated environment, allowing you to run multiple Instagram accounts on one physical device safely. ShadowPhone detects and manages profiles automatically.
